We’re Social

The LB Water crew and Conservin’ Mervyn were out at Cesar E. Chavez Park to celebrate celebrate Long Beach’s Inaugural Latino Cultural Center and El Mercado kickoff today. A great time celebrating #latinoheritagemonth and the diverse and vibrant culture of our community!

Today kicks off Water Professionals Appreciation Week! To celebrate, we’ll be giving a spotlight to the roles of different Long Beach Water staff who work every day to ensure a safe and sustainable water supply for our city.

A big part of that is making sure we have resilient and reliable sources of local groundwater.

Nik, one of our civil engineers, helps design, plan and implement groundwater well construction – and he’s busy! We currently have 12 new wells in design or construction, with more planned down the road.

Increasing our access to groundwater helps us continue to provide low rates for our customers and also make sure we have adequate supply for our future.

Thanks, Nik! Keep up the great work!

For World Rivers Day, we honor one of LBW’s main sources of imported water: the Colorado River, which reaches us through a 242-mile aqueduct opened to Long Beach water mains for the first time 80 years ago.

You’ve been hearing a lot about the Colorado River in the news lately as we all work to protect this precious water source.

With the ongoing drought, water levels are severely diminished. It is critical we all do our part to save water to protect our water supply now and in the future.

This #FlashbackFriday, check out this aerial view of some of our water storage tanks at the Alamitos Reservoir! Long Beach Water was established by a vote of the people in 1911. While our department has varied in both size and scope over the past 100+ years, our commitment to providing a high quality, reliable drinking water supply has remained the same.
