Since 1987, the Conservation Corps of Long Beach has served corpsmembers from the greater Long Beach area by providing them with skill development, leadership training, and community investment through the completion of various environmental work projects. The installation and maintenance of drought tolerant landscape will provide corpsmembers the opportunity to build occupational job skills in landscape design, maintenance, and urban forestry as well as enhance their own personal growth and development.

The Coastal Conservancy is a State agency established in 1976 to protect and improve natural lands and waterways, help people access and enjoy the outdoors, and sustain local economies along the length of California’s coast. The Coastal Conservancy has recognized the efforts of the Long Beach Water Department through it’s Climate Ready Program and will help fund DIG Garden installations. The Climate Ready Program is aimed at helping California coastal communities adapt to the effects of climate change such as increased greenhouse gas emissions and more extreme weather conditions.
